Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness in reducing local reactions post third molar extraction between Ketorolac, a nonsteroidal anti -inflammatory of conventional use, and chlorhexidine in gel, an antiseptic that has been used recently against the inflammation. Methodology: two groups of 35 patients each, similar in age and sex, selected at random, were treated. Results: It was demonstrated that the chlorhexidine gel was more effective to reduce significantly (p<0.05) intensity and presence of pain between 6 and 72 hours of application (p <0.01). To this is added its low cost, easy application, harmless to gastric wall, reduced absorption in digestive tract and minimal adverse reactions.
