C. albicans, is part of the normal oral flora and is considered the most frequent etiological agent of opportunistic fungal infections, due to both local and systemic alterations in the host. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of carriers of Candida albicans and non-albicans carriers in a group of healthy subjects of the state of Tabasco, Mexico. The study was a descriptive, transversal and prospective design. There were studied 149 patients who attended to Juchiman Dental Clinic II of the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco. It was used the differential culture medium CHROMagar Candida, germ tube test and growth at 45 ° C for identification. 57 (38.3%) patients were identified as carriers of oral Candida. C. albicans was the most frequent with 56.1%, followed by C. glabrata, C. krusei and C. tropicalis. 12.3% of patients presented more than one species of Candida. No association was found between positive cultures for Candida and gender of study subjects (p> 0.1). This study provides the first epidemiological data on oral Candida colonization in the state of Tabasco, Mexico.
